UFC 85 Gets Yet Another Official Bout Added To The Card
May 5, 2008
Well Dana White, president of the UFC has certainly lived up to his word of not only replacing Chuck Liddell for UFC after his injury, but making the card much better as well. Fans in the UK, and worldwide tuning in via pay per view, can look forward to yet another fight on the already jam packed card. Paul Taylor (1 – 2 UFC) will be squaring off against Jess Liaudin (2 – 1 UFC)
The addition of this fight brings the official number of bouts on the card to a huge 12. Those are all the official bouts, but there is one fight still in the works (Jonathan Goulet versus Paul Kelly) so expect 13 bouts to look forward to. The above listed fight will be a rematch from a battle the two had in Cage Rage 2 back in February of 03. Liaudin lost that bout in what he deemed a “controversial decision” so this match should be an exciting one as he certainly has something to prove.
Originally UFC 85 was just to be a normal Pay per view with an average number of fights. Liddell was supposed to fight Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, but Rua injured himself and had to back out of the fight. Rashad Evans quickly stepped up to fight Chuck. Not long after that though, Chuck injured his right hamstring and had to pull out of the match leaving Rashad with no opponent. Fans started clamouring that the event was going to be a disappointment. Dana White held a press conference shortly after announcing his intentions to not only replace Chuck, but he promised to vastly improve the card as well and he certainly seems to have done that.
Other matches to look forward to which will be televised on PPV, are as follows:
- Thiago Alves Versus Matt Hughes
- Chris Leben Versus Michael Bisping (this match is in Limbo due to Chris being arrested on a parole violation due to a drinking driving infraction, though it’s expected Chris will make the match)
- Mike Swick Versus Marcus Davis
- Rashad Evans Versus James Irvin
- Brandon Vera Versus Fabricio Werdum
Bouts that fans can look forward to seeing in person, but will not be televised are as follows:
- Jonathan Goulet versus Paul Kelly (Unconfirmed at this point in time)
- Jess Liaudin Versus Paul Taylor
- Antoni Hardonk Versus Neil Wain
- Jason Lambert Versus Luiz Cane
- Ryo Chonan Versus Roan Carneiro
- Martin Kampmann Versus Jorge Rivera
- Thiago Taveres Versus Matt Wiman
- Thales Leites Versus Nate Marquardt
It’s a shame fans tuning in via PPV won’t be able to catch those bouts as there are many great fights there lined up. UK fans are defiantly in for a treat on June 7th. The event will be taking place at the O2 Arena in London, be sure to catch this ppv.

Got something to say?

That’s the most bouts of any card this year and a way better line-up than the runner up, UFC Fight Night 13.
What’s more I don’t see too much potential for the fights to Starnes/Lutter/McCarthy style.
Can’t wait!
