Chris Leben Arrested on DUI
May 1, 2008
Well this seems like an awfully smart move considering he has a huge fight not more then 5 weeks away against Michael Bisping at UFC 85. It appears Chris Leben turned himself into a Sheriff’s office in Oregon on Wednesday on a parole violation, which stemmed from a DUI offence, a good idea considering if he didn’t turn himself in he probably wouldn’t be appearing at UFC 85. The last report online claims Chris was still behind bars late Wednesday night, he will go before a judge at about three in the afternoon Today (May 1st). He will not be eligible for parole because the infraction is a probation violation.
The Ultimate Fighter veteran has a decent UFC record of 8 and 3, he recently won a match against the very tough brawler Alessio Sakara at UFC 82. As many of you already know Leben versus Bisping was added to the UFC 85 card after Chuck Liddell had to pull out of the event due to a very bad hamstring injury. It would appear that since Leben had turned himself in on the DUI charge he will be able to compete in UFC 85 in London. This is of course preliminary information, but if true, many fans can breath a sigh of relief and be happy to know that they will be able to see the two ultimate fighter veterans go at it very soon. It looks like Leben will stay in jail for 8 to 10 days according to T. Jay Thompson whom runs the gym in Hawaii where Leben teaches MMA.
Other fights to look forward to on the newly adjusted and beefed up UFC 85 card are Matt Hughes versus Thiago Alves, Mike Swick versus Marcus Davis and of course Rashad Evans versus James Irvin. The UFC certainly seems to have not only saved the event after Chuck’s withdrawal, but made it even better. Expect more news on the matter to be posted here as it develops.
