Barnett Versus Rizzo at Affliction Promotion

Looks like Josh Barnett and Pedro Rizzo will be having their rematch at the upcoming Affliction promotion. Though the Promotion has not yet been officially announced for some reason, fights on the unannounced card are being called official…so it’s a bit of an odd way of going about their promotion, but hey whatever works. It’s not like the event will need a whole lot of marketing and promotion anyways, any card with the likes of Pride veteran and number 1 ranked heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko will sell out for sure. It certainly doesn’t hurt to have big names right under his like Josh Barnett, Pedro Rizzo and of course Tim Sylvia.

 

Obviously Fedor fans have heard about the Emelianenko versus Tim Sylvia bout. Tim recently left the UFC with one fight left on his contract in order to sign with adrenaline promotion. Tim’s longtime manager Monte Cox happens to be the CEO and president of the promotion. The contract Tim signed with Adrenaline is non-exclusive as well, so Tim has much more freedom then he did under the UFC contract. It seems Sylvia was seeking a bout against Fedor for awhile now and the best way to go about it was signing with a company that Fedor Does not despise quite as much as the UFC.

Josh Barnett versus Pedro Rizzo could very well steal a bit of the spotlight from the Emelianenko fight; in fact, Josh is counting on it. The battle will be a rematch, the two men met in the ring back in 2001. Barnett lost that match due to a knockout and vows it won’t happen again, he promises the fans he learned from his mistakes and claims he will knockout Rizzo this time around.

 

There are no other official fights on the card just yet, mostly because the event itself isn’t official. There are rumours that Matt Lindland will be on the card and that his opponent will be announced shortly though. With the two blockbuster fights already listed it’s looking like this promotion will be a great show for the fans. The event seems to be tentatively dated for July 19th it should be made official in the following weeks so look back here for more information as it develops.
