New UFC Weight Class: Featherweights?
May 31, 2007
From UFC.com:

Speed, power, technique. It’s the trio that turns ordinary people into fight fans almost instantly, and it’s a hallmark of a division many UFC fans haven’t even had the pleasure to check out yet. But on Sunday, June 3rd, the 145-pounders will finally arrive on the national scene when WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber defends his title for the third time against unbeaten Chance Farrar in the headliner of a card televised live on the VERSUS network beginning at 9pm ET.
“People are gonna fall in love with our weight classes,” said Faber. “You’re gonna find that it’s faster, it’s more explosive and it’s extremely entertaining.”
Rampage Parties Like A Rock Star!

This is just hilarious. Rampage has no shirt on, his belt on, a drink in his hand, and women just feeling all over him. Man it must be good to be Rampage right now!

UFC 71 Injury Report
May 31, 2007
After UFC 71 the Nevada State Athletic Commission released their official report including details of injuries and medical suspensions. Here are the results:
The NSAC handed out suspensions that run through to June 26 to Chris Leben (right eyebrow) and Kalib Starnes (left cheek), and suspensions running through to July 12 to the defeated now-former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell and Carmelo Marrero.
Keith Jardine was given a medical suspension through to July 26, while Ivan Salaverry has been told he cannot compete until November 23 due to a shoulder injury. If he undergoes surgery on the shoulder or receives medical clearance, his suspension may be lifted after June 26.
Karo Parisyan and James Irvin may also be forced to sit out until mid-November. Parisyan has an injury to his left thumb which, like Salaverry, could see his suspension lifted sooner should he undergo surgery or receive medical clearance. The same ruling applies to Irvin, who suffered a knee injury (believed to be a partial ACL tear) during last Saturday’s loss to Thiago Silva.
Short UFC Events = Bad?
May 30, 2007
I came across a very interesting article today that talks about how short the main events have been in the last 2 years of the UFC. Quite honestly I had never really thought about this as of late but it seems to bubbling up in conversations more so every day. If you could take a minute to read the article and check out the shortness of events below and give me your input.

MMAGirls Post UFC 71 Thoughts
May 29, 2007
Well we thought it was time to bring back our favorite MMAGirls to give us their thoughts on the UFC 71 Fights and some other stuff. So enjoy!

Q1: Oh my god was that a fantastic card or what?
A: I nearly lost my voice screaming so much. I was mad that Leben lost by decision. It was a lackluster fight, but I feel that Kalib didn’t press the action enough to earn that win.
Q2: Do you girls go out to watch the fight or stay at home?
A: Sometimes we go out, but usually we order the pay per view with some friends so we can actually hear what Joe Rogan is saying. Noisy bars aren’t as fun, so we ordered this one.
Q3: Which fight would you consider the most action and why?
A: Of course I love Rampage’s win, but the most action has to be Karo’s fight. He is fun to watch. I think it was the second round that he had Josh wobbled and I was hoping he would pounce on him and finish it.
Q4: I’ve been hearing through the grapevine that the Jackson haters are crying foul play by Big John, your thoughts?
A: If you watch the replay you may notice that when Liddell got up on his knees his eyes were crossed. To my knowledge Chuck isn’t normally cross-eyed. The UFC would have been ruined if Big John didn’t stop it and Chuck suffered some brain damage.
Q5: Now that UFC 71 is over and UFC 72 is quickly approaching what excites you about this card?
A: My boy Rich Franklin. Okami will be a tough fight, but Okami is not going to be able to overpower Franklin the way he dominated Swick.
Q6: When do you plan on giving your predictions for UFC 72?
A: We plan on filming them next Sunday and having them live on youtube that night. We just launched mmagirls.net and we should have the video on there as well. We are excited to finally have a real website.
Q7: Can you give us at UFCcountdown.com a special mention and how is Lauren feeling?
A: This sounds so bad, but we just made a deal with a fightwear company (tba) to have them be the exclusive sponsor for the UFC 72 predictions video. Right now our goal is to give back to MMA, and in the near future we want to sponsor some women fighters. By selling advertising space we hope to accomplish this.
Lauren was sad about Chuck’s loss. We had a serious rivalry going on this one and I had a bad feeling that Chuck was going to catch him with one of his famous fight ending punches.
Thanks for having me back and I hope to chat with UFCcountdown.com in the near future.
Love ya,
Joanne
Liddell’s Clubbing Got Him Clobbered?
May 29, 2007
I have been reading several reports on different Las Vegas forums that Liddell was sighted out and about clubbing from the Sunday before the fight until before fight night. And the worst part is there are pictures to justify this talk. (1) (2)

There were multiple sightings of Liddell at Body English nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel, starting on the Sunday before the fight. He was at Jet nightclub at The Mirage on Monday and back at Body English on Wednesday, as seen in a photo posted on spyonvegas.com.
Is it just me or did Chuck quite possibly take the biggest fight of his life for granted? I mean the guy had what almost $1 Million bucks on the line for this fight not to mention his title belt. Oh and don’t forget about all of the fans that support Liddell and made wagers based on his promises.
Ok I’m not trying to call Chuck out or anything but come on man.
What say you?
